Solo Act?

As Christians we often times feel the need to perform. We compare ourselves to other Christians – do we read the Bible as much as they do? Serve at church as much as they do, give, help, DO as much as they do?  Do I follow the rules as well as they do?

It is an exhausting way to live our lives, and God doesn’t want us to live like that. God wants us to live in freedom – in a personal relationship with Him, getting to know HIM as a person, not saving ourselves by keeping rules!

Galatians 3:2-4 …Only crazy people would think they could complete by their own efforts what was begun by God. If you weren’t smart enough or strong enough to begin it, how do you suppose you could perfect it?

We aren’t perfect and we will never be perfect in our own strength and works. But God requires perfection… uh-oh… WELL because He knew we could never live up to that perfection, he gives us that perfection through His son Jesus Christ dying for our sins on the cross. He takes our mistakes and failures and gives us a clean slate!

Jesus would not have had to die if it were possible for us to attain perfection by following rules.

Galatians 3:5-6 Does the God who lavishly provides you with his own presence, his Holy Spirit, working things in your lives you could never do for yourselves, does he do these things because of your strenuous moral striving or because you trust him to do them in you?

Trust God. Trying to earn God’s forgiveness and grace is turning a blind eye to the amazing sacrifice that was given for us. It is ignoring the cross. It is ignoring the fact that Christ died for us on a cross. It is us saying that we didn’t need God to die for us… Live in love with God.

When we love God and our hearts and minds are focused on Him and we are spending time with Him, growing in Him,  this energizes our desire to live a life that expressed our love to Him.
